A Planned C-Section

Recently, I had found out that Baby was in a breeched position. The ultrasound confirmed that his head measures big. Our Ob-Gyn told us we could try for an external cephalic version (ECV) but hubby and I decided that if his head is too big to fit through my pelvis, there was no point in trying to turn him. It wouldn’t fit through anyways. So after discussing this with our doctor, we decided to go ahead with the planned c-section.

For a good couple of days, I was feeling down. I worried about the prolonged stay at the hospital and the incision recovery time. I felt guilty at the thought that I may not be able to be there for Baby right away. But hubby has assured me that it’ll be alright. He would take a month off work to take care of me and Baby.

I did a lot of research online to see what other people have said about their recovery time. I think the consensus is that it depends on each person. A c-section is considered a major surgery so it will definitely take time to heal. Moms often discount that fact because they are too eager to commence their motherly duties right away. Regardless of whether you give birth vaginally or by c-section, there will be a period of pain and discomfort. At the end of it all, there is a great reward.

My surgery was planned for January 13th (yes, FRIDAY the 13th). But they have since moved it up to the 12th instead (thank goodness!). I won’t say that I’m very superstitious but when it comes to the first day of my Baby’s life, I do want him to have a good start.

It’s hard to believe that the nine month journey has almost come to an end. Soon I’ll be able to resume some of my pre-pregnancy activities again (ie. sleeping on my back, eating sushi, and having the occasional glass of wine). With just a few days away, the notion of being a parent is becoming very real. The hospital bag is fully packed. Check out my next blog on packing for the hospital. Stay tuned for more on my baby updates!
